Passport Photo Background
A passport photo background must be plain white or off-white with no shadows, texture, lines, or objects. Do not digitally replace the background.

How to get it done
- Choose a plain white or off-white wall, sheet, or covered car seat with no visible texture or objects.
- Move the subject several feet from the background when possible and use even light across the face and wall.
- Check the edges around the hair, shoulders, and neck for shadows, objects, wall lines, or uneven color.
- Take a new photo if the background is gray, patterned, yellow, textured, or shadowed; do not replace it with software.

Common mistakes
- Standing directly against the wall and casting a shadow behind the head.
- Using a patterned sheet, textured wall, dark car seat, furniture, or another object as the background.
- Allowing a yellow, gray, washed-out, or unevenly lit background to remain in the photo.
- Relying on background removal, replacement, filters, or AI editing instead of taking a new photo.
- Checking only the center of the background and missing shadows or objects near the shoulders and head.
